VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE MODEL

REME Museum - Volkswagen Beetle Model

A perfectly detailed scale model of a 1949 Volkswagen Beetle.
Donor: Major Ivan Hirst REME - Accession Number A:2000.4323
 
This model is finished in light green and was given to Major Ivan Hirst REME in 1949 in recognition of his work in relaunching the Wolfsburg factory and laying the foundations for Volkswagen?s future success.
 
The body work is removable and has opening doors, engine cover and boot lid with working catches and stays.  The interior has upholstered seats and the floor is carpeted.

The chassis and running gear detailing includes working rack and pinion steering, spring loaded pedals, a working drive shaft, hand brake with cable and miniaturised coil, plugs and carburettor.
 
One of only three made by the Firm of Peter Koch in Cologne in 1949 as gifts for Major Ivan Hirst, Col Radclyffe and Heinz Nordhoff.
